Create a list

Start one named list in the Console and use Records & Lists for the rules that shape it.

Use this guide when you need a named list for work in the Console. Lists and membership owns list behavior, inputs, and recovery. This path only gets you to a list you can see.

Before you start

  • A Workspace where you can use Records & Lists. Governance & Administration owns membership and permission recovery.
  • A name that lets you recognize the list when the owner page reads it back.

The list owner chooses the inputs. Keep this path small so you can return to Lists and membership before you submit work.

Open Lists

The Console is the browser Surface for this path. Open Console if you need browser access or an unavailable control explained. The Surface guide keeps browser access separate from list behavior.

  1. In the Console, open Records & Lists.
  2. Open Lists.
  3. Select the control that starts a list.

Name the list

The list form belongs to Records & Lists. Use its current guidance to choose inputs, then submit the form once.

Success: the list appears in the Records & Lists list view under the name you gave it. Open the list from that view to continue work with the owner page.

Read the list back

The Records & Lists list view is the observation for this journey. If the name appears there, the owner has a list to read and manage. Use Lists and membership for its fields, members, and any later action. Use API when a caller needs the owner contract outside the Console.

When it fails

Access denied

Cause: the Console cannot start the list for the current Workspace. Recovery: use Governance & Administration to resolve membership or permission, then return to Lists.

Operation unavailable

Cause: the Console does not offer the action for this list. Recovery: use Lists and membership to choose the supported list or membership recovery.

Next steps

  • Lists and membership owns the list rules and the next list action.
  • Console explains browser access when the Console path is unavailable.
