Selecting a Surface

Match a person, program, terminal, or agent to the Merulan Surface that reaches the owner contract.

A Surface is a way to use Merulan. It calls an operation. The Capability owns the work and the fix.

Choose a Surface

Use the Console for browser work. Use the API or SDK from code. Use the CLI from a terminal. Use MCP from an agent. Infrastructure as Code is the entrypoint for a Workspace plan. The Capability Operations contract names the Surfaces that offer an action. Read that contract before moving a working action to another caller. If the Surface is absent, choose one that the contract lists.

Keep ownership clear

A Surface tells you how to reach work. It does not define the work itself. Return to Data Pipelines when you need a Capability owner for an object, result, or refusal. The owner page gives the next action the same meaning after the caller changes. That split keeps a Surface choice from becoming a second work rule.

Next steps

  • Surfaces compares the entrypoints when your caller has more than one possible form.
  • How Merulan works shows how the selected Surface reaches a Capability-owned operation.
